Groups.io: Changelog
November 6, 2026
Moderation
- NEW: The Activity log now records when a chat is created, edited, closed, reopened or deleted, from the website or the app, and when a member is removed from a chat. Removing a member is listed with moderator activity, and the rest with member activity. https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/41506
- NEW: The Pending Messages page, in a group and under Pending for all your groups, listed each message's subject, sender and date, so you had to open a message to decide what to do with it. Each message now also shows the start of its body (without quoted text), the names of its attachments, and a label saying why it's pending, such as Moderated member, New member or Moderated hashtag; hover over the label for the full reason. Under a member's address, a First post badge marks someone who has never posted to that group, and otherwise the number of messages they've posted there (up to 100+). This makes it easier to approve, reject or delete several messages at once from the list. On phones, long subjects now wrap instead of running off the screen.
- CHANGE: The Reason field in the dialogs for reporting a message, photo, file or profile is required, but nothing said so until you tried to send an empty report. Its caption now has a red asterisk to mark it as required. https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/41507
- CHANGE: Saving an edit to a pending message without approving it took you to the next pending message, or back to the Pending Messages page, so you had to find the message again to check your edit and approve it. Saving now keeps you on the message you edited.
- BUGFIX: After you approved, rejected or deleted a pending message, you went to the next one in the list, but only to a newer one. If you had started with the newest message, or one in the middle, you went back to the Pending Messages page even though older messages were still waiting. You now go to the previous message when there is no newer one, and back to the Pending Messages page only once none are left.
- BUGFIX: When you opened a pending message from the link in its notification email, its position (for example "4 of 4"), the previous and next arrows, and the message you went to after approving it followed no particular order. They now follow the same oldest-to-newest order as the Pending Messages page.
Group Settings
- NEW: Topic statuses applied to every topic in a group, so in a general group with one status such as #sold, every member who started a topic got a "Your topic is posted" email with a #sold link and a Set status button, even on a question. Group Settings has a new Topic Statuses section that explains what a topic status is, lists the group's statuses, and has two settings. Which topics can have a status? is either all topics, as before, or only topics with one of the hashtags you check, such as #forsale; topics that already have a status can still be changed or cleared, and moderators can set a status on any topic. Email topic starters a link to set the status turns the "Your topic is posted" email on or off; starters still have the Set status button when it's off. Existing groups keep all topics with the email on, so nothing changes until an owner changes these settings. https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/41511
- CHANGE: In group exports, the wiki was a single
wiki.jsonfile holding every page. Each wiki page, with its revisions, is now its own file in aWikifolder, named after the page's title (for exampleWiki/Home.json). The contents of each page's file are the same as that page's entry in the oldwiki.json. If you have scripts that readwiki.json, they will need to read the files in theWikifolder instead. - BUGFIX: Exporting a group with a large wiki or a long activity log could fail without the export ever arriving. The wiki and activity log were built up in full before being written to the export, and a wiki with many revisions of pages containing pasted images ran the export out of memory. Both are now written to the export a piece at a time, so these groups can be exported.
- BUGFIX: In a locked group, which shows no counts in its sidebar, the counts of unread messages, drafts and pending messages came back after moving to another page of the group. They now stay hidden.
- API NEW:
/updategroupacceptsstatus_scope(status_scope_allorstatus_scope_tagged),status_eligible_hashtags(hashtag IDs; a single empty value clears the selection, and leaving it out keeps it) andtopic_posted_notice. The group object returned by/getgroupand other endpoints includes the same three fields.
Calendar
- BUGFIX: If an event's name, location or description contained text that looked like HTML, calendar search results (the group calendar and Your Calendar) displayed it as HTML instead of as the text that was typed. Search results now show it as typed.
Wiki
- BUGFIX: If a wiki page contained text that looked like HTML, wiki search results displayed it as HTML instead of as the text that was typed. Search results now show it as typed.
- API BUGFIX: The
summaryreturned by/searchwikiscould contain HTML from the page's text. It is now escaped, leaving only the<strong>tags around the matched words.
Chat
- CHANGE: When a member sends several messages close together, they are grouped and only the first shows the sender's name and the time. A group kept going as long as each message came within 5 minutes of the one before, so one time could stand for a much longer conversation. A group now ends 5 minutes after its first message, and the next message shows its own time. Hovering over any message shows its full date and time. https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/41506
- CHANGE: The + button in a chat now has a tooltip saying what it does: add photos, videos or files, see the chat's members, or leave the chat. In the + menu, Leave Chat now has an exit icon instead of a trash can. https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/41506
- CHANGE: The menu for each chat on the Chats page now has icons for Edit Chat, Close Chat, Reopen Chat and Delete Chat, like the same menus elsewhere on the site. https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/41506
- BUGFIX: The text a member wrote when starting a chat appeared in the Chats list and in the email announcing the chat, but not in the chat itself, which showed only "Created this chat." The text now appears in that first message, for existing chats too. https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/41506
- BUGFIX: Deleting the first message in a group of messages from the same member left the next message with no name or time. It now shows them. https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/41506
- BUGFIX: In a group's sidebar, the Chats count of unread messages didn't change as you moved between the group's pages, so it could be out of date until you reloaded the page. It now updates on every page.
